Munich. During work in his garden a 49 year old man in Obermenzing discovered a grenade.
In an attempt to remove a hedge in his garden he unearthed a metal object, which he initially thought was a steel pipe, but shortly after recognised the shape of a grenade. He called the police and fire brigade immediately.
After the evacuation of the surrounding gardens, the bomb disposal squad determined that the grenade was a "8/8 Flakgranate". It was not a dud but disposed, unused munitions. The grenade had an explosive charge, however the propellant and fuse were missing. The grenade was retrieved without any problems.
