The Kremlin has announced that President Vladimir Putin is willing to engage in discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump, as stated by spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. During a press briefing on Friday, when asked about the potential for a long-anticipated phone conversation between the two leaders, Peskov refrained from confirming any specific arrangements for the weekend. He remarked, "Putin is prepared; we await further signals. Everyone is ready, but predicting outcomes is challenging. Should anything materialize, we will inform you."
In the days following his inauguration, Trump emphasized his eagerness to meet with Putin to deliberate on the Ukraine situation, noting, "Every day we delay our meeting results in more lives lost on the battlefield."
Reports have emerged suggesting that Trump's administration is exploring a peace initiative for Ukraine, which could propose a ceasefire along existing front lines and the establishment of an 800-mile demilitarized zone monitored by European forces. Furthermore, the plan may involve a commitment from Ukraine to postpone its NATO membership aspirations for a minimum of 20 years.
