Vienna. Six people died after a German-registered coach crashed on a motorway near Vienna, leaving six people dead and seven more seriously injured late yesterday, informs AFP.

Another 17 people were also injured in the accident, which happened on the A-21, near Baden, about 50 kilometres from the capital.

Those injured were taken to hospital in Vienna and the nearby cities of Moedling, Baden and Sankt-Poelten.

Local rescue services, including the police, fire and ambulance services were out in strength at the scene, where traffic had been brought to a halt.

First reports suggest that that the bus collided with a heavy goods vehicle before crashing into another lorry. Four of the six people killed were on board the coach.

The two lorries involved were registered in Slovakia and Romania.
