Renfe Restores Service for Talgo Avril Trains Following Technical Glitch
Thu 2nd Jan, 2025
Renfe announced on Thursday morning that it has resolved the technical issue that temporarily halted the operation of Talgo Avril trains. The malfunction, which occurred on Wednesday, affected routes connecting Madrid with Galicia, Asturias, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Valencia, and Murcia. With the resolution of the problem, normal service has resumed across these key corridors. The railway company confirmed through a post on social media that the usual scheduling has been reinstated since the start of service on Thursday. Talgo also reported that the issue was linked to the battery chargers manufactured by Ingeteam, and that they had informed Renfe early Thursday that the problem had been fixed. The technical glitch was reportedly associated with the transition to the new year. After the issue was detected at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, Talgo collaborated with Ingeteam and Renfe, as well as Tarvia, to address the communication failure with the battery chargers. Talgo emphasized that the trains were made available to Renfe from the early hours of Thursday, allowing for the continuation of services. Prior to the resolution, Renfe had indicated that if the issue was not rectified, they would ensure operations could proceed on Thursday for the three affected routes. The technical failure rendered all Talgo Avril trains inoperable, impacting a total of 36 scheduled journeys for the day, with an estimated 19,430 passengers affected. The Talgo Avril trains, which began commercial operations in May 2024, are a vital part of the high-speed rail network, connecting Madrid with major cities including Galicia, Asturias, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, and Murcia. The successful resolution of this technical issue marks a return to normalcy for one of Spain's modern train services, which are crucial for both regional connectivity and national travel efficiency.
