As of January 1, 2025, pension adjustments in Spain, including those under the Social Security system and various public benefits, have taken effect. This year's changes follow the pension reform implemented by the coalition government in 2021, which reestablished the link between annual pension increases and inflation rates. Specifically, the adjustments are based on the average Consumer Price Index (CPI) from the previous year, utilizing interannual CPI data from December to November.
General Increase in Pensions
The standard increase reflects inflation trends, resulting in a 2.8% rise. According to the Ministry of Social Security, nearly 10.3 million contributory pensions under the Social Security system will see this increase in 2025. The same 2.8% adjustment applies to over 720,000 civil service pensions, which could lead to an annual increase of approximately EUR600 for an average retirement pension and EUR500 for an average pension across the system.
Minimum Pensions
For minimum pensions, the increase is even more substantial, reaching around 6%. Certain categories, like pensions for those with a spouse dependent or for widowhood with family responsibilities, will see an increase of 9.1%.
Specifically, the minimum retirement pension for single-person households is set at EUR12,241.60 per year (up from EUR11,552.80 in 2024), while for those with a spouse dependent, it rises to EUR15,786.40 (up from EUR14,466.20 in 2024).
Minimum Income Guarantee (IMV) and Non-Contributory Pensions
The Minimum Income Guarantee (IMV) and non-contributory pensions will see an increase of 9%. Consequently, the IMV for individual beneficiaries will now be approximately EUR7,910, up from EUR7,250 in 2024.
Child Allowances
The Ministry of Inclusion has announced that the annual allowance for dependent children or minors with a recognized disability of 65% or more will reach EUR5,805.60 in 2025. For children with a recognized disability of 75% or more, the allowance is set at EUR8,707.20 annually, reflecting an interannual increase of 2.8%.
SOVI Pensions
The pensions under the Mandatory Old Age and Disability Insurance (SOVI) will also increase by 6% in 2025. This adjustment will bring the monthly payments to EUR560 for non-concurrent pensions and EUR543.60 for concurrent pensions.
Gender Gap Reduction Supplement
Additionally, the supplement aimed at reducing the gender pension gap will see an increase of 8.1%, reaching EUR35.90 per month for each dependent child.
