Munich. A tragic accident occured at Franziskanerstraße in Munich's Haidhausen district: a 79 year old pensioner was hit by a tram and died. The body, which was stuck under the rails, is currently being recovered by a rescue team.
The 79 year old pensioner, who was living in a house on Franziskanerstraße, crossed onto the street between two parked cars and was hit by a tram. The 52 year old driver tried to brake but it was too late, the Serbian pensioner was pulled under the wheels of the tram.
The rescue team saw a gory picture: puddles of blood on the road and between the rails. The tram was lifted with airbags, to retrieve the body. At 12:30 PM the tram was able to continue on line 25.
The dead man lived in "Haus an der Franziskanerstraße", a urban retreat for homeless men. It is not know if the pensioner was under the influence of alcohol.
At the time of the accident many passengers were in the tram, police are looking for witnesses to reconstruct the accident.
