MUNICH / PORTIMAO. Engineer Gunnar D. (43) form Munich drowned his girlfriend on the beach of Canavial in the Algarve. Their little daughter is missing without a trace since then.

The three looked like a happy family when they arrived in a hotel at Meia Praia on 6th of June: the engineer, his Angolan girlfriend and her daughter. However, according to witnesses the couple fought constantly. The day before the scheduled return flight Gunnar D. traveled with his family to Canavial, a bay close to the beach of Porto de Mos. Witnesses observed the couple in the water. All believed the couple was playing in the water. When the 30-year-old woman cried out a little later, no one suspected there was any reason for alarm.  But then suddenly Gunnar D. carried her back to the beach. Two tourists came to help with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Emergency teams tried to revive the young mother. Gunnar D. said that he wanted to get some medications in the hotel. But, he grabbed his little daughter and disappeared with her. Witnesses saw him run away from the beach.

The 30-year-old was confirmed dead by a forensic medicine autopsy. Gunnar D. departed before Portuguese police could find him, however, without his daughter.  The police suspect that he has killed the child. It has issued an international arrest warrant. Last Thursday Gunnar D. was apprehended and arrested in Munich under suspicion of double murder.
