Munich. The MVV will increase its prices by an average of 2.8%, starting from the 12th of December. Ticket prices for occasional users (as opposed to season ticket holders) will increase significantly. The reason for the changes is increased wage rates, new trains and re-fitting costs.

Those affected most are the people who use the services occasionally, the Streifenkarte has the greatest increase in price, from 4.4% - to 12 Euro. Travelling for children will be more expensive as well. MVV users can take small comfort in the fact that short distance route prices will remain unchanged, as will bicycle day tickets.

At the top of the increased price list is the single ticket for zones one and two (increased by 4.2% to 2.40 Euro and 4.80 Euro) and the partner day card (increased by 4.3% to 9.40 Euro for zone one and 18.80 Euro for the overall network).

The large providers of the MVV; the MVG and the S-Bahn, demanded the 2.8% price increase. Their reasoning is the increase of wage rates, purchasing new vehicles and the re-fitting costs for the S-Bahn and security cameras.

"A working à–PNV costs money", says mayor Christian Ude. The MVG alone will spend 115 million Euro for 21 new U-Bahn trains. Ude also says "Without the passenger records and the increased income, prices would still have been increased".
