Allianz Arena - From the moment the draw for the 2nd round of the German Cup was made, Bayern Munich would have been licking their lips in anticipation of an easy route into the last sixteen.

Meanwhile, the visitors FC Ingolstadt 04, cellar dwellers in the 2nd division, would surely have travelled the 90 kilometres down the A9 motorway to the Allianz Arena with thoughts only of damage limitation against their illustrious hosts from the Bavarian capital.

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes wielded his magic rotation wand and made six changes to the side surprisingly beaten 2-1 in Hanover in the Bundesliga on Sunday. Veteran goalkeeper Joerg Butt (37) emerged from the wilderness to claim the captain's armband for this low-key Bavarian derby.

Ingolstadt held firm for over half an hour (in front of a near full-house of 63,000) against a Bayern B-side with only Thomas Mueller and Toni Kroos considered first-choice players in the starting line-up.

The floodgates finally opened on 33 minutes when Mueller found space inside the box and his shot was wickedly deflected off David Pisot leaving the helpless Ingolstadt goalkeeper Sascha Kirschstein stranded.

The Bundesliga league leaders came roaring out of the blocks in the second half with the lively midfielder David Alaba doubling the lead on 49 minutes. The talented 19-year-old Austrian also scored in the narrow defeat in Northern Germany on Sunday.

Back-up striker Nils Petersen also filled his scoring boots with a brace of goals on 52 and 70 minutes with two quality slide-rule finishes. Petersen's obvious finishing ability bodes well should anything untoward happen to top scorer Mario Gomez in the coming weeks.

Brazilian full-back Rafinha, got in on the act with eight minutes remaining when he drifted down the right-hand side before his cross was deflected off Marvin Matip past the unlucky Kirschstein.

It was left to Takashi Usami to apply the finishing touch to the rout with a sixth goal in the closing minute. It was the Japanese midfielder's first competitive goal for the record Bundesliga champions.

Ingolstadt have now conceded 39 goals this season, more than any other club in German professional football. The home fans cruelly rubbed in the heavy defeat with a resounding chorus of ''You're just a bunch of car makers,'' in reference to Ingolstadt's on-the-pitch struggles and their close association with automobile giant Audi.

Bayern return to Bundesliga action this Saturday with another local derby, this time against struggling 1. FC Nuremberg. Kick-off at the Allianz Arena is at 1530.
