Bayern Basketball Win on the Road
Next home match Saturday vs. Hannover at the Olympia Eissportzentrum
Munich, October 3 - Jonathan Wallace and Aleksander Nadjfeji both scored 21 points to lead FC Bayern to their first road win 87-77 against Science City in Jena Saturday night. Bayern once again used a defensive effort in the 3rd quarter to separate themselves from their opponent and improved their record to 2-0.
After the tremendous season debut last weekend in front of 3000 fans at home, head coach Dirk Bauermann knew the first road match would be a major test. "On the road is always tough, 20 points tougher," commented Bauermann last week. But leading scorer Wallace was confident going into the match. "We had a couple of tests (in the pre-season) on the road against Bamberg, it was a heck of a challenge. We know what it takes to win, now we have to put it in action."
And that they did. Like the first match, Bayern came out and won the first quarter, this time 26-19. After an even 2nd frame, Bayern outscored Science City 22-11 in the 3rd quarter and cruised to victory in front of 1500 fans.
Demond Greene added 16 points to offset Jena's four scorers in double figures.
Bayern return home to host UBC Hannover Tigers on Saturday, October 10th at the Eissportzentrum. Tip-off is at 19:30.
