As the West German Lottery announced on Tuesday evening in Münster, the winner in the first prize category tapped the correct winning numbers 15, 17, 23, 35 and 38, as well as the Euro numbers 4 and 9.

The jackpot of the lottery, in which 18 European countries participate, was last cracked in September, but at that time it was only filled with 20 million euros.

The main prize then remained untouched for 16 draws in a row - the "longest jackpot phase to date" in the history of the lottery. In Tuesday's draw, 14 other tipsters from Germany secured EUR1.2 million each in the second prize category. The same sum went to three participants from Denmark, Hungary and Poland.

The ticket with the correct numbers had been handed in at an acceptance point, said Westlotto spokesman Bodo Kemper. Further details of the lucky winner were not initially available.

In the second prize category, 17 other tippers or betting syndicates were reportedly able to enjoy a million-dollar prize. "This is also a record," Kemper said of the total of 18 million-dollar winnings. 1,209,751.50 euros went four times to Baden-Württemberg, three times to Bavaria, twice each to Berlin, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse, and once to North Rhine-Westphalia.

In addition, there was one winner each in Denmark, Hungary and Poland. According to Kemper, the previous best was set on February 7, 2020, with a total of 15 million wins after one draw.

The jackpot of the European lottery is capped at 120 million euros. In July, a player from Denmark won this maximum amount. The highest win in Germany to date was claimed by a lottery syndicate from North Rhine-Westphalia in May. The 15 lottery players shared the prize of 110 million euros among themselves.
